RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CONTROLLER TO PAY NON-CONTRACT PHYSICIANS UP TO $3,00,000 FROM JULY 12., 2007 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2009

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS,; THE County of San Mateo is responsible to provide professional medical services for County patients at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) in certain specialty areas, such as gastroenterology, neurosurgery, dental surgery, surgical assists and pediatric-on-call when contracted service providers and staff physicians are not available; and

 

WHEREAS,; on May 22, 2007, this Board approved Resolution No. 068740 which authorized the Controller to pay up to $250,000 for the term of Resolution from July 12., 2005 through June 30, 2007; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has determined that this continuation of funding is warranted.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that effective July 12. 20207 through June 30, 2009, payments to non-contract physicians will not exceed $300,000. On-call specialists, including but not limited to neurosurgeons, gastroenterologists, pediatric on call coverage, and dental surgeons who provide professional specialty services when no other medical services coverage is available, in the case of multiple procedures the first procedure will be paid at 100% of the prevailing Medicare participating fee schedule for San Mateo County for all Part “B” services that can be reimbursed per Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) guidelines on the Medicare Labor Adjusted Ambulatory Surgery Classification (ASC); all other services not found on the Part “B” Medicare Fee Schedule or the ASC will be paid under the Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) rate. All additional procedures will be paid at 50% of the Medicare Allowable reimbursement rate. Surgical assistant services that are a covered benefit under Center for MediCal and Medicare Services (CMS) guidelines will be paid at 16% of the approved Medicare global surgery service fee. All charges will be approved by the Chief Financial Officer of SMMC.
