RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE CALIFORNIA CHILDREN’S OUTDOOR BILL OF RIGHTS FOR SAN MATEO COUNTY AS A GUIDELINE FOR PARENTS, GUARDIANS, PARKS COMMUNITIES, PRIVATE ENTERPRISES AND ALL COUNTY AND LOCAL AGENCIES

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
|
|
WHEREAS, numerous studies have shown that children who participate in outdoor recreational activities are healthier, do better in school, have better social skills and self-image, lead more fulfilled lives, strengthen family relationships, and learn to be stewards of nature; and
|
|
WHEREAS, the California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights has been drafted to draw attention to and encourage participation in ten beneficial outdoor activities that include: discover California’s past, splash in the water, play in a safe place, camp under the stars, explore nature, learn to swim, play on a team, follow a trail, catch a fish, and celebrate their heritage; and

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors intends that every child should have the opportunity to experience each of the activities listed within the California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights by the end of their 14th year.

|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors adopts the California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights for San Mateo County (Attachment A) as a guideline for parents, guardians, parks, communities, private enterprises and all County and local agencies to encourage every child living in San Mateo County to experience each of the activities listed within the California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights by the completion of their fourteenth year; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors with the adoption of this resolution supports and encourages all County and local agencies to adopt, publicize, and facilitate the California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights into programs and activities for the benefit of our youth.
