THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 2007 AS

RECOVERY HAPPENS MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the month of September 2007 is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month; and

   

WHEREAS, substance abuse and co-occurring mental disorders and physical illnesses are major public health problems that affect people of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds in all communities, and have a tremendous medical economic, and societal cost; and

   

WHEREAS, the substance abuse treatment and prevention providers of San Mateo County have dedicated themselves to the recovery process and to the education of the public about alcoholism, drug dependence, co-occurring disorders and other treatment issues; and

   

WHEREAS, everyday, in San Mateo County, men, women, and youth enter treatment for substance abuse and begin the road to recovery; and

 

WHEREAS, persons in recovery lead sober, productive lives as workers, students, parents, citizens, and taxpayers as a direct result of prevention, treatment, and recovery services; and

   

WHEREAS, acknowledging these efforts in September 2007 offers advocates of recovery an opportunity to educate the public and policymakers about the effectiveness of treatment and prevention;

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby declares the month of September 2007 as “Recovery Happens Month” in San Mateo County.
