THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 2007 AS | ||||
RECOVERY HAPPENS MONTH | ||||

WHEREAS, the month of September 2007 is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month; and | ||||
WHEREAS, substance abuse and co-occurring mental disorders and physical illnesses are major public health problems that affect people of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds in all communities, and have a tremendous medical economic, and societal cost; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the substance abuse treatment and prevention providers of San Mateo County have dedicated themselves to the recovery process and to the education of the public about alcoholism, drug dependence, co-occurring disorders and other treatment issues; and | ||||
WHEREAS, everyday, in San Mateo County, men, women, and youth enter treatment for substance abuse and begin the road to recovery; and | ||||
WHEREAS, persons in recovery lead sober, productive lives as workers, students, parents, citizens, and taxpayers as a direct result of prevention, treatment, and recovery services; and | ||||
WHEREAS, acknowledging these efforts in September 2007 offers advocates of recovery an opportunity to educate the public and policymakers about the effectiveness of treatment and prevention; | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby declares the month of September 2007 as “Recovery Happens Month” in San Mateo County. | ||||
