SUBJECT:

Resolution authorizing participation in the California State Disability Insurance Program for the represented employees of the Law Enforcement Unit (Non-safety classifications)

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to sign the “Application for Elective Coverage of Disability Insurance for Employees of a Public Agency” form for employees in the Law Enforcement Unit to participate in the California State Disability Insurance Program.

BACKGROUND:

The represented employees of the Law Enforcement Unit requested information from Human Resources and the Controller’s Office regarding coverage under the California State Disability Insurance (SDI) Program. After holding an informational session, the County agreed to conduct an election of employees to determine if the majority desired SDI coverage.

 

DISCUSSION:

A majority of the Law Enforcement Unit employees voted to participate in the SDI Program. SDI will therefore be provided to all employees in the unit, with the cost of the program to be borne by the employees. The Human Resources Department, in conjunction with the Controller’s Office, will oversee the implementation and administration of the program.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There will be no additional cost to the County.
