Agreement with Todd Kim, M.D.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution:

1. Authorizing the President of the Board to execute an Agreement with Todd Kim, M.D. for specialty orthopedic services for the period September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2009 in an amount not to exceed $537,392.

2. Authorizing the Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of San Mateo Medical Center or the CEO’s designee to execute contract amendments which modify the County’s maximum fiscal obligation by no more than $25,000 (in aggregate), and/or modify the contract term and/or services so long as the modified term or services is/are within the current or revised fiscal provisions.

BACKGROUND:

San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population and access to services to its general population. This care includes professional, specialty, orthopedic services and the management and supervision of those services. Todd Kim, M.D. provides professional specialty orthopedic services.

 

DISCUSSION:

Dr. Todd will provide added orthopedic services that will increase access for the residents of San Mateo County to San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) to orthopedic clinics and surgeries. The County need for orthopedic services has increased and continues increasing. SMMC will be capable of meeting this growing need through contracting with Dr. Todd. Orthopedic services are provided under the direction of the Interim Chief Executive Officer of SMMC, the Quality Assurance Committee and the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff.

This Agreement incorporates current HIPAA language. Risk Management and County Counsel have approved the Agreement. The Contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination and equal benefits.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of this Agreement is for two years from September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2009. Year II reflects a 3.5% increase in rates over the first contract year and is in keeping with the agreements with the three other orthopedic surgeons in this Department. Funding for this Agreement is included in the FY 2007-08 Tentatively Approved Budget and will be included in the FY 2008-09 Proposed Budget. The maximum amount the County shall pay the Contractor under this Agreement will not exceed $537,392.
