RESOLUTION SPECIFYING THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND MEMBERSHIP OF THE FATHERHOOD COLLABORATIVE ADVISORY BOARD AND STANDING RULES FOR ITS GOVERNANCE

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the Fatherhood Collaborative is a policy and advocacy group whose mission is to provide a forum to address and support the importance of men and fathers taking an active role in the well-being of children and families; and

 

WHEREAS, since 1998, the County, through its Board of Supervisors as well as its Health Department and other agencies, has participated in, and supported, the Fatherhood Collaborative in its goal to ensure that the importance of the role of fathers in their families and in the community is recognized and nurtured; and

 

WHEREAS, participants in the Fatherhood Collaborative have also included representatives of the Child Care Coordinating Council of San Mateo County, the Service League of San Mateo County, the San Mateo County Superior Court, various non-profit entities, and concerned community members; and

 

WHEREAS, for administrative and other purposes, the Fatherhood Collaborative desires to be an advisory board to the Board of Supervisors and the Health Department.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED as follows:

1. This Board hereby confirms the creation of the Fatherhood Collaborative Advisory Board, whose purpose is to advise the Health Department and this Board of Supervisors on matters relating to addressing and supporting the importance of men and fathers in taking an active role in the well-being of children and families and with respect to any other related matters that the Health Department or this Board of Supervisors raises.

2. It is desired that the membership of the Advisory Board include representatives of the County government, the San Mateo County Superior Court, community-based organizations, and the community at large, as well as include youth commissioners. The Advisory Board shall include a minimum of twelve and a maximum of fifteen members in addition to the maximum of two youth commissioners.

3. The members of the Advisory Board shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Members shall serve terms of two years, which shall begin on January 1 and end on December 31. Upon the conclusion of a term, a member may be reappointed subject to a maximum of three consecutive terms.

4. The Advisory Board will comply with all standing rules for County boards.

5. The Advisory Board shall be staffed by the Health Department.
