PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 AS

JOBTRAIN DAY

WHEREAS, Opportunities Industrialization Center West (OICW) was established in Menlo Park in 1965 and has provided job training, job placement and educational programs and services to more than 120,000 men, women and youth living in the at-risk communities of the Peninsula; and

 

WHEREAS, OICW has changed many lives by moving people from poverty and despair to self-sufficiency and hope, and by providing students and trainees with the skills and self-confidence they need for success; and

 

WHEREAS, After 42 years of service, OICW’s Board of Directors have decided to change the organization’s name from Opportunities Industrialization Center West to JobTrain, to better serve the community and increase the organization’s outreach to students and potential employers; and

 

WHEREAS, OICW will announce its name change to the public at their Annual Open House and Community Barbecue on Thursday, September 20, 2007; and

 

WHEREAS, This name change marks a milestone in OICW’s four-decade history of service and as this occasion is held in such high regard by the communities of San Mateo County.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors does hereby designate Thursday, September 20, 2007 as JobTrain Day and wishes them continued success under their new name.
