WHEREAS, Terrance L. Sedik and his family relocated from the Midwest in 1980, when he joined Daly City as the city planner after a stint as the deputy planning director for Lake County, Ill., on the Wisconsin border, just north of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, appointed in 1995 as Daly City’s director of community and economic development, Terry’s years as city planner and assistant director of community and economic development helped him to recognize the city’s growth and development priorities; and

WHEREAS, over the next quarter-century, Terry helped shape and mold Daly City from a quiet bedroom community in the shadow of San Francisco to a vibrant and modern city of some 110,000 residents; and

WHEREAS, under Terry’s guidance, Daly City created affordable housing programs, established habitat conservation plans for San Bruno Mountain, established a Code Enforcement Program, revitalized Westlake Shopping Center and participated in the Aircraft Noise Insulation project, which has benefited more than 2,000 homes; and

WHEREAS, in addition, Terry’s vision helped the city build the Junipero Serra Office Building, the Mission Plaza retail center, the Vista Grande and Schoolhouse Station affordable housing complexes and – perhaps his crown jewel – the $160 million Pacific Plaza complex, which includes some 2,000 slots of free parking, more than 660,000 square feet of retail and commercial space on nine levels and a 20-screen theater with 3,800 stadium-style seating.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Terrance L. Sedik upon his retirement after more than 35 years in public service, including 27 years for the people of Daly City. The Board hereby extends sincere wishes to Terry and his family, especially his four grandchildren, and his beloved Chicago Cubs, for many more years of continuous excellence and success.
