RESOLUTION

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION HONORING

 

SHELTER NETWORK

Celebrating 20 years of service

 

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, Shelter Network started their journey of “Leading the Way Back Home” for our community’s homeless men, women, and children in 1987; and

 

WHEREAS, Since their founding, Shelter Network has provided over 1.43 million nights of shelter; and

 

WHEREAS, Shelter Network has served over 31,000 homeless individuals since inception; over the past fiscal year alone, over 3,500 individuals were served, 45% of which were children; and

 

WHEREAS, Shelter Network has grown from one family shelter in Daly City to seven site-based and four scatter site-based programs on the Peninsula; and

 

WHEREAS, Shelter Network is the primary provider of 24 hour emergency shelter for homeless families in San Mateo County; and

 

WHEREAS, Shelter Network’s average client length of stay is 53 days, compared with the national average of nine months; and

 

WHEREAS, More than 85% of Shelter Network’s transitional program graduates have returned to permanent housing; and

 

WHEREAS, Shelter Network utilizes the talents of more than 2,800 volunteers who provide over 30,000 hours of service to our community.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors commends Shelter Network for their 20 years of service to the community and to those in need of their services.
