RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE FINAL REPORT AND MODEL FOR THE “DEMOGRAPHIC AND SERVICE NEED PROJECTIONS FOR THE AGING POPULATION: 2020-2030” STUDY AND SUPPORTING COUNTY DEPARTMENTS IN USING THE PROJECTION DATA AS A BASIS FOR PLANNING

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the older adult population is expected to increase substantially by the years 2020 and 2030 as the “baby boomer” population ages; and

 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Health Department is committed to preparing itself for the needs of the growing and changing senior population; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Department, as the lead agency responsible for the well-being of the older adult population, seeks to predict this population’s future characteristics and needs accurately in order to be able to continue to provide a coordinated continuum of care in the years 2020 through 2030; and

 

WHEREAS, to gain knowledge about the health care, transportation, and housing needs for the current and future aging population in San Mateo County, the Board passed Resolution 068214 in August 2006 authorizing an agreement with The Lewin Group to conduct research and develop a projection model; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board of Supervisors has been presented with a final report and seven output reports from the “Demographic and Service Need Projections for the Aging Population: 2020-2030” study:

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors accept the final report and model for the “Demographic and Service Need Projections for the Aging Population: 2020-2030” study and support County departments in using the projection data as a basis for planning purposes.
