RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING | ||||
Beatrice D. Jackson | ||||
Upon Her Retirement After | ||||
46 Years of Service to San Mateo County | ||||

WHEREAS, Beatrice Jackson was born and raised in rural Louisiana, the only child of Gus and Frances Spencer, and because of socio-economic conditions of the time, started working at the age of 9; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Bea married Alson E. Jackson in the early 1950s and moved to the Bay Area, where she was among the first to attend Contra Costa Community College; the couple eventually settled in Daly City in the mid-1950s and raised two daughters, Portia and Teri; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in 1960, Bea started her county employment at Hillcrest Juvenile Hall, quickly earning the trust and respect of her colleagues as a union representative and negotiator; in 1976, she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the College of Notre Dame; and | ||||
WHEREAS, over the years, and in addition to her daily responsibilities as a county employee, Bea has served on the county’s Social Services Advisory Board, the Daly City Planning Commission and the Hillside Homeowners’ Association, plus her long-standing dedication to Paradise Missionary Baptist Church; and | ||||
WHEREAS, her tireless work and efforts on behalf of the youth and families of San Mateo County, especially the Culinary Arts Program, has received statewide recognition for the long-term benefits to formerly incarcerated young people rebuilding their lives. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Beatrice D. Jackson upon her retirement after more than four decades of dedicated service to the people of San Mateo County. The Board expresses its gratitude and adds sincere wishes to Bea and her family for many years of continuous health and happiness. | ||||
