RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING | ||||
Peninsula Volunteers | ||||
Upon the Celebration of Its | ||||
60th Anniversary | ||||

WHEREAS, shortly after World War II, a group of proactive women in southern San Mateo County created the Stanford Village Day Nursery School for the children of returning veterans; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in 1947, this group incorporated itself as the Peninsula Volunteers, and set a tradition of providing scholarships for local schools; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in 1949, Peninsula Volunteers created Little House Senior Center, which in 1954 became the first such facility in the United States to open a building designed for those age 50 or older; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the City of Menlo Park in 1960 granted Peninsula Volunteers’ unprecedented request to rezone a parcel on Partridge Avenue to build Partridge Kennedy Apartments, a 30-unit complex for low-income seniors and the disabled; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in 1977, Meals on Wheels began bringing hot meals to individuals to help ensure proper nutrition, especially for homebound seniors with health, transportation and/or other access challenges; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the following year Rosener House Adult Day Services Center started serving seniors with various, age-related special needs to help them remain in their own homes and to relieve family-based care providers; and in 1981, Crane Place Apartments added another 93 units of senior and disabled housing. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Peninsula Volunteers, Inc., upon its 60th anniversary. Each month, more than 3,500 Peninsula adults learn, live and succeed through Peninsula Volunteers’ programs, services and generosity. The Board hereby extends its gratitude and adds sincere wishes for at least another six decades of excellence. | ||||
