THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

MARC HERSHMAN

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Marc Hershman was a member and past president of the Millbrae Community Foundation Board, a member and chair of the Mayor’s Civic Coordinating Council, a member of the San Mateo County Council of Cities, a board member of the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency, C/CAG Board member, a board member and past chair of the San Mateo County Transit District and a board member and vice-chair of the San Mateo County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. Marc Hershman also was a Liaison to the Tourism Committee, the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Process Committee, the Library Oversight Committee and was Council Liaison to the Committee for a New Millbrae library.

   

WHEREAS, Marc Hershman has served the City of Millbrae for the last seventeen years, as a Sister City Commissioner from 1990-1995, as Chair of Sister City Commission from 1990-1992, as a Park and Recreation Commissioner from 1996-1997 and was initially elected to the Millbrae City Council in 1997; and

   

WHEREAS, Marc Hershman has been a Millbrae City Council member since 1997 and served as Vice Mayor from 2000-2001, 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 and as the Mayor of Millbrae from 2001-2002, 2004-2005 and 2006-2007; and

   

WHEREAS, Marc Hershman as Mayor was responsible for accomplishing many significant achievements for the City of Millbrae including, establishment of a skate park, obtaining a grant to address anticipated BART traffic Challenges and putting Millbrae’s Municipal Code on-line. Marc Hershman was instrumental in the passage of a parking tax, instituting an internet registration system for recreation programs, establishing a pharmaceutical drop box, completing Millbrae’s initial Water Distribution System Evaluation Model, completing the Lomita Storm Drain Silt Basin Pipeline repair project design, ensuring adoption of legislation to control car sales on El Camino Real, preparing the schematics for future a downtown garage at Magnolia parking lot and entering into a relationship with Bridge Housing to meet Affordable Housing Goals.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on November 27, 2007, hereby honors and commends Marc Hershman for his many years of service to the City of Millbrae and congratulates him upon his leaving office.
