SUBJECT:
Adopt a Resolution Supporting the City of Pacifica in their efforts to keep Sharp Park as Golf Course.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a resolution supporting the Pacifica City Council’s petition to the City and County of San Francisco to retain Sharp Park Golf Course as a public golf course.
VISION ALIGNMENT:
Commitment: Responsive, effective and collaborative government
Goal(s): #22 County and local governments effectively communicate, collaborate and develop strategic approaches to issues affecting the entire County.
BACKGROUND:
The City and County of San Francisco owns and operates the Sharp Park Golf Course, which is located within the city limits of the City of Pacifica. There have been discussions within the City and County of San Francisco to explore alternate uses of Sharp Park other than as a golf course.
DISCUSSION:
Such a closure would have a negative impact on the City of Pacifica both environmentally and economically.
Physically the city would lose park land and the esthetic beauty of a public golf course right on the ocean. Other recreational uses for this land would likely have a greater impact on the existing habitat than the golf course currently does.
Economically this would hurt the City and its citizens as many people of all generations from both San Francisco and San Mateo counties use the golf course to stay and spend money in the City of Pacifica.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
