BACKGROUND:

San Mateo Medical Center has been using outside biomedical engineering services for maintenance and repair of patient care and non-patient care medical equipment for the past 25 years.

The preventive maintenance and service requirements were contracted with a different vendor. However, due to inadequate performance the 30 day termination clause in the contract was exercised and the contractor was released on July 6, 2007.

DISCUSSION:

An interim contract is necessary to provide for continued service while a Request for Proposal (RFP) is processed. This interim arrangement is for emergency Biomed labor and does not include parts. This is also a four day per week arrangement.

GE Healthcare Technologies was chosen to provide interim service because it is the only Biomed company that would provide interim service. The other Biomed companies do not offer interim service.

The delay in presenting this contract to the Board is a result of prolonged negotiations between their Counsel and our County Counsel over several legal points.

The RFP has been published and will be awarded by mid-November.

County Counsel and Risk Management have reviewed and approved this Agreement

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of this agreement is July 7, 2007 to December 17, 2007, in an amount not to exceed $250,000. Funds are included in SMMC’s FY 2007-08 Adopted Budget.
