BACKGROUND:

PPMG has provided management, supervision and physician and technician services in clinical and anatomical pathology to SMMC since April 2002. SMMC has a continuous need for 24-hour laboratory medical coverage and this Group offers the SMMC the benefits of a large practice with Pathology specialties and administrative support. Historically, there have been five specific areas of clinical and anatomical pathology services covered under this contract including pathology, cytology, histology, point of care coordination and osteoporosis bone density testing.

DISCUSSION:

The extension is necessary to ensure uninterrupted service and continued payment of invoices. This extension also makes some modifications to the Scope of Work (Exhibit A), which is being amended in its entirety.

Negotiations are underway for a new one-year contract with PPMG. The new contract will allow for continued services to SMMC while an RFP is being developed.

The contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination and equal benefits.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved this Amendment.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Amendment extends the term of this Agreement by nine months for a term of April 1, 2005 through December 31, 2007. The maximum amount of this Agreement is increased by $485,289, from $1,312,200 to $1,797,489. Funds are included in the San Mateo Medical Center’s FY 2007-08 Adopted Budget.
