BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo Medical Center’s (SMMC) Fair Oaks Children’s Clinic, which occupies an aging modular structure in Redwood City, is deteriorating and presents environmentally and physically compromised conditions for both patients and staff. After comparing replacement v. renovation costs and timeframes, it was decided that a complete renovation is the most efficient solution for this problem. San Mateo County Public Works Department prepared estimates and workplans for this project. The San Mateo County Health Foundation was approached by the Medical Center for assistance in renovating this structure to make it once more a safe and usable home for the clinic and its young patients, their families and the employees.

DISCUSSION:

By memo dated November 7, 2007 from the San Mateo County Health Foundation, SMMC was awarded a grant in the amount of $400,000 to be used for the renovation of the Fair Oaks Children’s Clinic.

The Resolution will allow the County to accept the grant award and appropriate the funds for this project. By this Resolution, the Board will also approve this project.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no net county cost associated with this project. The maximum amount of the award is $400,000. This amount was not included in the Adopted Budget for

FY2007-08.
