BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo Medical Center’s (SMMC) Ron Robinson Senior Care Center is a unique, interdisciplinary primary care and geriatric assessment outpatient clinic for the elderly residents of San Mateo County. Opened since March, 2004, the clinic was the result of years of planning by the San Mateo Board of Supervisors, the San Mateo Medical Center, and the San Mateo Health Department. Ron Robinson Senior Care Center (RRSCC) is now at full capacity for rooms, patient volume, and staffing. The clinic is not currently capable of further growth within current space. The proposed project would expand the RRSCC an additional 2,000 square feet into the space immediately adjacent to and currently occupied by the Departments of EKG/EEG and Respiratory Therapy. These departments will need to be relocated as part of the expansion. Probable cost estimates for this effort were prepared by an architectural consultant. The San Mateo County Health Foundation was approached by the Medical Center for assistance expanding the RRSCC and renovating space to accommodate the EKG/EEG and Respiratory Therapy Departments.

DISCUSSION:

By memo dated November 7, 2007 from the San Mateo County Health Foundation, SMMC was awarded a grant in the amount of $1,500,000 to be used for the expansion of the Ron Robinson Senior Care Center and relocation of the EKG/EEG and Respiratory Therapy Departments.

The Resolution will allow the County to accept the grant award and appropriate the funds for this project. By this Resolution, the Board will also approve this project.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no net county cost associated with this project. The maximum amount of the award is $1,500,000. This amount was not included in the Adopted Budget for

FY2007-08.
