SUBJECT:

Acceptance of a Grant Award (Grant #2007-02542) from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation

RECOMMENDATION:

1. Adopt a Resolution:

 

a.

Authorizing the acceptance of a grant from Silicon Valley Community Foundation in the amount of $40,000.

     
 

b.

Authorizing the execution of a Grant Agreement with Silicon Valley Community Foundation to help provide comprehensive dental services to low income adults; provide twice weekly transportation between SMMC and UOP; and develop an organizational work plan for sustained funding of the transportation program for the term July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, in an amount not to exceed $40,000.

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request accepting increased revenue ($40,000) and increasing the appropriation limit in Salaries and Benefits, and Service and Supplies ($40,000).

BACKGROUND:

On January 4, 2005, the board adopted a Resolution accepting a grant in the amount of $40,000 from the Peninsula Community Foundation to fund transportation between San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) and the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry (UOP).

On May 2, 2006, the Board adopted Resolution No. 067963 accepting a second year support grant from Peninsula Community Foundation to continue funding transportation between SMMC and UOP.

Peninsula Community Foundation and Community Foundation Silicon Valley have merged to create the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The combined entity wishes to continue its funding support for transportation between SMMC and UOP.

 

DISCUSSION:

SMMC has received a new grant award of $40,000 from Silicon Valley Community Foundation to help in providing comprehensive dental services to 700 low income adults through UOP and Willow Clinic; provide twice weekly transportation between SMMC and UOP; and, develop an organizational work plan for sustained funding of the transportation program.

The Resolution will allow the County to accept the grant award and appropriate the funds that will pay for the continued provision of services specified by the program.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved this Agreement.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the Agreement is one year, July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. The amount of the grant pursuant to the Agreement is $40,000. There is no net county cost associated with this grant.
