RESOLUTION WAIVING THE REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL PROCESS AND AUTHORIZING THE HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR, UPON APPROVAL BY COUNTY COUNSEL, TO SIGN AN AMENDMENT TO THE CURRENT AGREEMENT WITH BLUE SHIELD FOR PROVISION OF HEALTH PLAN BENEFITS TO COUNTY EMPLOYEES, RETIREES AND THEIR DEPENDENTS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2008 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2008

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the County has negotiated with its employees to provide Blue Shield benefits for employees, retirees and their dependents; and

WHEREAS, the County desires to approve Blue Shield to provide coverage from January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008; and

WHEREAS, the County has received a proposal that active plan premiums will increase by 14% in 2008.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors waives the Request for Proposal process and authorizes the Human Resources Director, upon approval by County Counsel, to sign an amendment with Blue Shield for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo.
