RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SHERIFF TO EXECUTE

AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO AND THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES (OES) FOR SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING UNDER THE

2007-08 BYRNE JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM,

AS WELL AS RELATED DOCUMENTS NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT THE GRANT

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the California Office of Emergency Services (OES) administers grant funding to counties for the 2007-08 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, which is a partnership among federal, state, and local governments to create safer communities by improving the functioning of the criminal justice system—with emphasis on violent crime and serious offenders—and enforce state and local laws that establish offenses similar to those in the federal Controlled Substances Act; and

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo has applied for $87,856 in supplemental Byrne Grant funds, and has indicated that the Sheriff will manage the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, and that the funds will be allocated to the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force to support the County’s Drug Endangered Children (DEC) program and other narcotics initiatives; and

WHEREAS, implementation of the supplemental Byrne Grant funding- will require an agreement between the County of San Mateo and OES, and the commitment of the Board of Directors of the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force to comply with all terms and conditions of the Byrne Grant program; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force has confirmed its intent to comply with all grant terms and conditions, and in order to ensure a timely implementation the FY 2007/2008 grant funds, has requested this Board to authorize Sheriff to sign the Byrne grant agreement, and this Board wishes to so authorize the Sheriff to execute the agreement.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Sheriff of the County of San Mateo is authorized, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, to execute the 2007/08 supplemental Byrne Grant agreement with the California Office of Emergency Services, and to execute all related documents necessary to administer the Byrne grant funds consistent with the County’s 2007/08 Byrne Grant supplemental funding application.
