THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
*RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING*
*Joe Fernekes*

WHEREAS, Joe Fernekes has been a dedicated member of the South San Francisco City Council for 16 years, and previously served as a Board Member for the South San Francisco Unified School District for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Joe Fernekes graduated from Junipero Serra High School in 1968, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Teaching Credential from the University of San Francisco and received his Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision and an Administrative Services Credential from San Francisco State University; and

WHEREAS, Joe Fernekes has been a resident of South San Francisco since 1971, was a South San Francisco Unified School District Board Member from 1981-1991, and was elected to the South San Francisco City Council in November 1991 and re-elected in 1995, 1999, and 2003; and

WHEREAS, Joe Fernekes served as Mayor of South San Francisco in 1994, 1997, 2001 and 2006; and

WHEREAS, Joe Fernekes has received several special recognition awards for his outstanding public service, including the South San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Award for Visionary Leadership, California Parks and Recreation Society Award of Excellence for Day in the Park Vision and Success, Italian American Citizens Club Person of the Year 2002, Sitike Kindness Award for Outstanding Community Service and the YMI Special Recognition Award for Charitable Commitments and Community Involvement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, State of California, on December 4, 2007, hereby honors and commends Joe Fernekes for his many years of service to the City of South San Francisco, and congratulates him upon his leaving office.
