Reappointment to the First 5 San Mateo County Commission

 

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that Taara Hoffman be reappointed to a second term on the First 5 San Mateo County Commission. Taara Hoffman is recommended to a Public Member position for a term that ends on January 1st, 2011.

 

VISION ALIGNMENT:

This appointment contributes to the County’s Shared Vision statements:

1) Our diverse population works well together to build strong communities, effective government and a prosperous economy;

2) Civic engagement -- including voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism, and participation in public discussions of important issues -- is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.

 

DISCUSSION:

Public Members of the First 5 San Mateo County Commission are appointed by the Board of Supervisors from among the following categories: 1) recipients of project services included in the county strategic plan; 2) educators specializing in early childhood development; 3) representatives of a local child care resource or referral agency or a local care coordinating group; 4) representatives of a local organization for prevention or early intervention for families at risk; 5) representatives of community-based organizations that have the goal of promoting nurturing and early childhood development; 6) representatives of local school districts; and 7) representatives of local medical, pediatrics, or obstetric associations or societies.

It is recommended that Taara Hoffman be reappointed to a Public Member position as a representative of a local child care resource. Ms. Hoffman is the Executive Director Coastside Children’s Programs, an agency that administers child care and learning centers that provide quality educational, recreational and skill-building activities through before and after school programs, as well as full-time activities during the summer.

There is no fiscal impact.
