An evening on-site nursing supervisor provides ongoing clinical and administrative support to the various units and staff at SMMC. The supervisor’s ability to schedule adequate staff coverage while assisting staff with patient care issues will ensure patients’ needs are met.

BACKGROUND:

The evening Nurse Supervisor recently accepted the position of Nurse Manager for ICU and Respiratory Care Services, which created this vacancy. The Human Resources Department has attempted to fill the vacant position; however, no qualified applicants have been identified.

DISCUSSION:

An evening supervisor is critical to the operation of SMMC. The position provides ongoing clinical and administrative support to the various units, staff and patients at SMMC by managing the operation of the hospital during non-business hours and weekends. Managing multiple priorities with the ability to schedule adequate staffing while successfully managing the needs of both staff and patients are fundamental components of this position.

The contract contains the standard 30 day termination clause which will be exercised when a qualified applicant is identified. The Human Resource Department is continuing in its efforts to fill this position.

County Counsel and Risk Management have reviewed and approved this Agreement.

The contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination and equal benefits.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the Agreement is November 1, 2007 through October 31, 2008. The maximum amount payable is ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS, ($185,000). Funds for this Agreement are in the SMMC FY 2007-08 Adopted Budget.
