SUBJECT:

Amendment to the Agreement with Dennis Israelski, MD

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the execution of an Amendment to the Agreement with Dennis Israelski, MD to provide infectious diseases services and direction of research to increase the amount by $270,000 to $1,092,500 and extend the term by nine months for a new term of April 1, 2005 through March 31, 2008

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

Dr. Dennis Israelski has provided infection disease services to the San Mateo Medical Center for the last several years. He has served in many roles, most notably as the Chief of Staff and a member of the Foundation. He has brought vision, enthusiasm, and commitment to the medical center facility through his clinical expertise in the fields of Infectious Disease and AIDS research.

The discipline of Infectious Disease serves as the basis for evaluation and treatment of blood-borne, airborne, direct contact, or projected sputum droplets communicative diseases including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and Hepatitis C. Dr. Israelski’s leadership in this areas and his participation with Stanford Hospital and Clinics allows county patients to have access to therapies that they otherwise may not be able to receive. It has also allowed the County to continue to remain on the leading edge of clinical research.

Infectious Disease Services are provided under the general direction of the Chief of Medicine at the San Mateo Medical Center. Monitoring and evaluation of the quality of services provided by contractor are accomplished through peer review by the Quality Improvement committee and the Medical Executive committee of the medical staff.

This Amendment will allow for the continued uninterrupted services of Dr. Israelski while a new contract is being negotiated.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the Agreement is April 1, 2005 through March 31, 2008. The maximum amount of the Agreement is $1,092,500. Funds to pay for these services are included in San Mateo Medical Center’s FY2007-08 Adopted Budget.
