Appointment to the Arts Commission

RECOMMENDATION:

Appoint Susan Salamy of Daly City as a member of the Arts Commission. This appointment to the 5^th District’s seat would be through January 5, 2009, to complete a recently vacated term.

BACKGROUND:

The 5^th District’s seat on the Arts Commission became open in late 2007, when former Commissioner Robin Leiter resigned her term. Several people have expressed an interest, with Ms. Salamy as the stand-out candidate.

Ms. Salamy has served on the Daly City Planning Commission and remains an active member of that community. Her civic engagement includes significant experience and volunteer work with the Peninsula Partnership Program; Daly City’s Police Athletic League; Seton Foundation; and Daly City’s Women’s Day Awards Committee, among others.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and has worked to bring the art and literacy programs to four school districts.

Ms. Salamy’s collective knowledge and experiences will be assets for the Arts Commission as well as the County as a whole.
