RESOLUTION

 

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

BRIAN M. KELLY

Upon his retirement as Chief of the City of San Mateo Fire Department

WHEREAS, BRIAN M. KELLY has enjoyed a distinguished thirty-four year career of service as a firefighter, first as a volunteer and a cadet with the Burlingame Fire Department, then as a firefighter with the City of Millbrae and later with the City of Modesto, returning to Millbrae as a Captain with the Millbrae Fire Department, followed by service as Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal with Sonoma County; and,

 

WHEREAS, BRIAN M. KELLY came back to Millbrae in 1998 to accept the position of Fire Chief and later moved to Union City to assume the position of Fire Chief and to reestablish the Union City Fire Department and, in February 2003, Fire Chief Kelly returned to his hometown, the City of San Mateo, to serve the citizens of that city as its Fire Chief, a position from which he is now preparing to retire; and

 

WHEREAS, BRIAN M. KELLY has been an innovator and a visionary leader, playing a major role in the establishment and implementation of the nationally recognized fire-based paramedic first responder program in San Mateo County under which a single, countywide dispatch center was formed for all 17 county fire agencies; and

WHEREAS, BRIAN M. KELLY is a member and past president of the San Mateo County Fire Chiefs Association, and the California Office of Emergency Service Firescope program and he has been active in the International Fire Chiefs Association’s effort to establish a national standard of mutual aid response; and

 

WHEREAS, BRIAN M. KELLY has demonstrated his strong commitment to the community he serves, a deep understanding of the responsibility of his position as a leader in the fire service and the ability to implement innovative policies and procedures;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends BRIAN M. KELLY for his leadership, dedication and commitment to the community and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
