The Board of Supervisors authorized the preparation of a comprehensive Jail Needs Assessment as an initial step towards the future rebuilding or replacement of the Maple Street Correctional Facilities. In March 2007, the Maple Street Correctional Facilities Needs Assessment Report Volume 1 outlining issues related primarily to our women’s inmate population was submitted to the Jail Overcrowding Task Force.
In subsequent discussions with the Jail Overcrowding Task Force, and with the County Manager’s Office regarding the issue of jail overcrowding on a system-wide basis, it was determined that the Needs Assessment Volume 1 should be expanded to include male inmates and the Maguire Correctional Facility. In September 2007, the Maple Street Correctional Facilities, Male Offender Needs Assessment Volume 2 was submitted to the Jail Overcrowding Task Force. The Jail Overcrowding Task Force requested the final Consolidated Needs Assessment Report to include a detailed analysis of both the men and women’s inmate population, and provide baseline data that will be essential as the County makes decisions about how to meet the challenges facing our correctional facilities.
