RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO ISSUE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP) FOR EMERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICES.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of

California, that

 

WHEREAS, Section 1797.224 of the Health and Safety Code permits local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies to create one or more exclusive operating areas (EOA) for ambulance services as long as a competitive process is utilized to select the provider; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1976, San Mateo County created a countywide EOA, with the exception of the City of South San Francisco; and

 

WHEREAS, the current contract with American Medical Response West for emergency ambulance service ends in June 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board for its consideration a Request for Proposals for emergency ambulance service, whereby an ambulance service provider shall provide emergency ambulance services within the County EOA; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has been presented with this RFP and has examined and approved its issuance:

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Director of the Health Department issue the Request for Proposals for Emergency Ambulance Services within County’s exclusive operating area.
