RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Webster Lloyd Clay

Upon his retirement after 26 years with the

Daly City Police Department

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Webster Lloyd Clay, raised in Daly City and a product of Oceana High School, joined the Daly City Police Department in August 1981 after attempting several civilian careers, including truck driver and dental technician; and

   

WHEREAS, Lloyd joined the US Army in 1968 and served honorably in Vietnam as a decorated helicopter crew chief, plus additional duty stateside as a drill sergeant helping to train new recruits at Fort Ord, near Monterey, California; and

   

WHEREAS, Lloyd chose his hometown department over multiple offers from other San Mateo County law enforcement agencies, and has served in various positions, including background investigator, firearms instructor and field training officer; and

   

WHEREAS, highlights of Lloyd’s distinguished career include being the department’s first Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) officer in 1992; his 1994 pursuit and capture of two bank robbery suspects and recovery of related evidence; service as a detective from 1996 to 1998; and successful investigations into prostitution and illegal gambling operations; and

   

WHEREAS, over the years, Lloyd’s tireless professionalism earned the gratitude and respect of his community and fellow officers, as underscored by nine Department Commendations, 14 Unit Commendations and more than 70 letters-of-appreciation from the public.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Webster Lloyd Clay upon his retirement from the Daly City Police Department after 26 years of dedicated service. The Board hereby expresses its gratitude and extends sincere wishes to Lloyd and his family for luck in all future endeavors, plus many years of continuous peace and happiness.
