SUBJECT:

APPROPRIATION TRANSFER REQUEST FOR THE PURCHASE OF A RUBBER TIRE ROLLER

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request (ATR) transferring $105,140 from Other Local Government Revenue in the Vehicles and Equipment (4760B) budget unit and $35,860 from Contingencies in the Roads (4520B) budget to Fixed Assets – Equipment in the Vehicles and Equipment (4760B) budget unit to purchase a rubber tire roller for use in the maintenance of the County’s roads.

One of the Key Department Initiatives for Public Works that is included in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 Outcomes Based Management plan is to “Reduce the County’s Impact on Climate Change by Reducing CO2 Emissions.” The ATR requested in this report will enable the Department to replace one piece of construction equipment with a new unit that will produce significantly less Nitrous Oxide (NOx) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions.

 

BACKGROUND:

PREVIOUS BOARD ACTION

1.

On May 15, 2007 the Board authorized the acceptance of a $1,200,000 grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) to replace various construction equipment and off-road vehicles, and authorized a Purchase Order with the Peterson Tractor Company Government Sales to acquire the equipment.

 

DISCUSSION:

This ATR is needed to transfer $105,140 from Other Local Government Revenue in the Vehicles and Equipment (4760B) budget unit and $35,860 from Contingencies in the Roads (4520B) budget to Fixed Assets – Equipment in the Vehicles and Equipment (4760B) budget unit in order to complete the purchase of this piece of road equipment. The funding for this item was included in the Fiscal Year 2007-08 final budget adopted by the Board for these budget units.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

This ATR transfers previously approved funding within the Vehicles and Equipment (4760B) budget unit. The source of funding for this piece of equipment will be 75% from the BAAQMD grant and 25% from the Road Fund. There will be no impact to the General Fund.
