COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Lee K. Lazaro

Upon His Retirement After

32 Years of Public Service

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Lee K. Lazaro first joined San Mateo County in 1979 as a Child Support Enforcement Bureau Budget Officer with the District Attorney’s Office, after spending more than three years working for the state and Santa Clara County; and

   

WHEREAS, for 29 years, Lee has served as the Budget, Administrative, & Financial Officer for five county departments: the District Attorney’s Office, the Department of Public Works, the Department of Probation, the County Manager’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office, plus special assignments with the Department of Information Services; and

   

WHEREAS, over the past 28 years, Lee has served diligently as the finance chair or vice-chair of the county’s Emergency Operations Center, supporting crisis response during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, the horrific events of September 11, 2001, and at least four major declared winter storm emergencies; and

   

WHEREAS, Lee has played key roles in several county efforts, including the early evolution of the Department of Child Support Services; the county’s first Five-Year Capital Improvements Plan; creation of the Information Services Department; development of the county’s three major financial systems (Payroll/Personnel; Budget; and Finance); and development of the county’s Outcome-Based Budgeting System; and

   

WHEREAS, additionally, Lee has served as assistant county budget director; system administrator for the county budget system; and on several committees overseeing major projects, such as the Medium Security Facility Remodel; the new Sheriff's Forensic Laboratory; the new County Police Academy at College of San Mateo.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County hereby congratulates Lee K. Lazaro upon his retirement after 32 years of dedicated public service, of which 29 were with San Mateo County. The Board further expresses its gratitude to Lee and his family, and extends sincere wishes for many years of health, happiness and luck in all future endeavors.
