COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING
|
JUDY SLEETH
|
2008 Arts Educator
|

|
WHEREAS, Art in Action was launched in 1982 by Judy Sleeth as a volunteer project for her daughter’s kindergarten class at Laurel School in Menlo Park because she was concerned the school district had cut art programs as a post-Proposition 13 budget measure; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, JUDY SLEETH, an art history teacher, knows the importance of art in general education and how art instruction strengthens students’ skills in problem solving, creativity, analysis and eye-hand coordination; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, JUDY SLEETH, developed art kits, which are the core of Art in Action, and provided training to parents and teachers to deliver this art program consisting of art appreciation, art history, and art skills; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, JUDY SLEETH, brought Art in Action first to the Laurel, Encinal, Las Lomitas and Phillips Brooks’ schools; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, JUDY SLEETH’S Art in Action now has programs for kindergarten through eighth grade and serves more than 20,000 students at 80 schools in the Bay Area and is dedicated to bringing visual arts education to the classroom,
|
|
|
|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends arts educator JUDY SLEETH for her artistic and educational contributions to the County and wishes her and the nonprofit Art in Action continued great success.
