RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING | |
The City of San Mateo and Alpha Company | |
In Recognition of the Fortieth Anniversary of the Adoption of Alpha Company | |

WHEREAS, the CITY OF SAN MATEO, on March 4, 1968, by unanimous vote of the City Council, adopted ALPHA COMPANY, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, also known as the Screaming Eagles; and | |||||
WHEREAS, the adoption of ALPHA COMPANY by the CITY OF SAN MATEO has stood for forty years and has improved morale among the troops of ALPHA COMPANY through expressions of love and support from home and has been a source of civic pride for the residents of the CITY OF SAN MATEO; and | |||||
WHEREAS, the CITY OF SAN MATEO has through the years demonstrated unprecedented and unreserved support for the troops and was the only city in the United States to stage a welcome home parade, honoring their adopted sons in January 1972 at the conclusion of the Vietnam War; and | |||||
WHEREAS, the successful adoption of ALPHA COMPANY by the CITY OF SAN MATEO inspired Linda Patterson to found America Supporting Americans, a nonprofit organization that links military units with communities throughout the country; and | |||||

WHEREAS, Linda Patterson’s husband Steve was a member of the original ALPHA COMPANY adopted by the CITY OF SAN MATEO, and both Linda and Steve Patterson will be in attendance on March 17, 2008 when the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the adoption will be celebrated, | |||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, congratulates ALPHA COMPANY and the CITY OF SAN MATEO on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the adoption of ALPHA COMPANY by the CITY OF SAN MATEO, and commends them both for the important part each has played in keeping America strong. | |||||
