RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING | ||||
Suzanne McKechnie Klahr | ||||
Upon Her Induction Into The | ||||
San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame | ||||
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * | ||||
WHEREAS, since 1999, Suzanne McKechnie Klahr has granted hundreds of low-income students on the Peninsula something many take for granted: the freedom to hope and dream of a brighter future; and | ||||
WHEREAS, during the mid-1990s, while attending law school at Stanford University and volunteering in East Palo Alto, Suzanne noticed that intelligent, motivated, young, minority entrepreneurs with viable ideas simply did not have ready access to investors; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Suzanne set out to create, at minimum, the same educational and business opportunities for youth from under-resourced communities as available to youth from more affluent surroundings; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Suzanne’s Build organization has earned local, regional and national recognition as a model of bringing services to whom and where needed, while meeting a goal of 100-percent college acceptance in a community with high school dropout rates as high as 70 percent. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Suzanne McKechnie Klahr upon her induction into the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame. The Board hereby extends to Suzanne and her family its gratitude and adds sincere wishes for continued excellence. | ||||
