THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING

The San Mateo County Youth Commission

Upon Receiving the National Association of Counties’

2008 Acts of Caring Award, First Place

WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors in 1993 created the Youth Commission to include young people as advisors to the Board and county departments, support youth-serving projects and foster inter-generational programs; and

WHEREAS, the Youth Commission has become a vital resource for county leadership in identifying issues as well as opportunities for youth and adults to jointly improve the lives of Peninsula residents; and

WHEREAS, members of the Youth Commission serve on other advisory bodies, including the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Commission on the Status of Women, among others; and

WHEREAS, the Youth Commission created and implemented a countywide survey focused on the health of young people; commission members analyzed the information and developed policy recommendations to help improve youth health; and

WHEREAS, members of the Youth Commission collectively devote countless hours to various projects countywide, including many that tackle timely issues affecting residents of all ages and backgrounds.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates the San Mateo County Youth Commission upon receiving First Place honors in the prestigious 2008 Acts of Caring Award
