RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the execution of an Agreement with Aetna Health of California, Inc. (Aetna) for the provision of their health plan services for the term April 15, 2008 to April 14, 2011

The Agreement contributes to this commitment and goal by providing a mechanism to pay for reimbursable hospital and medical services provided to San Mateo County recipients at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC).

BACKGROUND:
|
SMMC has contracted with Aetna since April 2005. The Agreement provides for the care of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services patients who are eligible to receive Aetna benefits.
|

DISCUSSION:
|
Pursuant to its new Agreement with Aetna, the County will continue to provide medical services for Aetna covered recipients and all other services as designated in the Agreement.
Aetna will reimburse SMMC for services rendered at the rate on average of prevailing Medicare reimbursement rates.
County Counsel and Risk Management have reviewed and approved this Agreement.

The contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination and equal benefits.

FISCAL IMPACT:
|
The term of the Agreement is three years, April 15, 2008 through April 14, 2011. Funds received from Aetna during FY 2007-08 totaled $166,000. The anticipated revenue for FY 2008-09 is $200,000 and will be included in the recommended Budget.
