BACKGROUND:
Bay Area Urology Medical Group has provided urology services to SMMC for the last several years. In particular this discipline serves as a basis for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the male and female urinary tract, including correction of bladder obstructions, as well as of the male reproductive organs, including testing for prostate cancer. This specialty also addresses identification and dissolution of kidney stones (lithotripsy) and chronic systemic disorders which have common related problems of the urethra, including End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
DISCUSSION:
There remains a shortage of urologist in San Mateo County. The Bay Area Urology Medical Group offers the hospital the benefits of experienced practitioners familiar with the complexity of the County patient base.
A Waiver of the RFP Process is being requested at this time. SMMC conducted an inquiry for possible providers of this service during November and December of 2007 with no success. Bay Area Urology continues to be the only provider willing to and capable of fulfilling the needs of SMMC for urology services
This item was reviewed by the Health System Redesign Initiative team and aligns with the first-year implementation plan approved by the Board of Supervisors on March 25, 2008.
County Counsel and Risk Management have reviewed and approved this Agreement.
This Agreement includes all provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination, equal benefits and jury service policy.
TERM AND FISCAL IMPACT:
The term of the Agreement is January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2009. The maximum amount the County shall be obligated to pay Contractor is $661,280.52. Funds are included in the SMMC’s FY2007-08 Adopted Budget and will be included in the FY2008-09 Recommended Budget.
