The Commission on the Status of Women currently has four (4) open seats, all stemming from recent resignations. Interviews were conducted April 1, 2008, with 20 applicants.
Martina Tello is filling a vacancy left by the resignation of Robin Sohnen, whose term expired December 31, 2007. Ms. Tello, who is a Puente Enlace volunteer in Pescadero, while serving on the First Five Advisory Committee and the Head Start Policy Council, would be appointed to a full term expiring December 31, 2011.
Lynn Forrest is the interim director of finance and operations for the International Museum of Women in San Francisco. She remains active with California Women Lead (formerly known as CEWAER), Soroptomist International, Equality California and the National Association of Female Executives. Ms. Forrest is filling a vacancy left by the resignation of Bonnie Wells, whose term expires December 31, 2009.
Jan Norton is manager of community outreach for Seton Medical Center in Daly City. She serves on the Daly City Peninsula Partnership Executive Committee, Daly City Youth Health Center Advisory Board and on the board of California Women Lead – San Mateo County Chapter. She also volunteers with Daly City ACCESS, the San Mateo Healthy Community Collaborative as well as with the Red Cross. Ms. Norton is filling a vacancy left by the resignation of Regina Wallace-Jones, whose term expires December 31, 2009.
Georgette Sarles has owned her own business at Westlake Shopping Center in Daly City for more than 45 years. She has been a member of the Westlake Merchants Association for 45 years and president four times. She has been a member of the Daly City/Colma Chamber of Commerce for 45 years and is its current president and CEO. Ms. Sarles serves on the board of the Daly City Emergency Food Pantry, the board of the Florence Crittenden Foundation, is chair of the Daughters of Penelope and remains active with three homeowners associations – of which two she founded. Ms. Sarles is filling a vacancy left by the resignation of Ligia Andrade, whose term expires December 31, 2009.
All four bring experience, proven dedication and they would contribute greatly to the commission and to the county as a whole.
