BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE
BAY AREA AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT (BAAQMD) FOR
$75,000 FUNDING FOR RECYCLEWORK’S CLIMATE ACTION PROGRAM IN
SAN MATEO COUNTY

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) has agreed to fund the Climate Protection Grant application submitted by the Director of Public Works; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to help build capacity for anticipated initiatives to increase energy efficiency, conserve water, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to offset costs associated with completing an Energy Strategy and the implementation of its recommendations; and

 

WHEREAS, a portion of the grant funds will be used to hire an extra-help, part-time, Resource Conservation Specialist II; and

 

WHEREAS, a portion of the funds will be used to promote the adoption of the Energy Strategy by every city in San Mateo County and to promote the appointment of one elected official and one staff person from each city to the Utility and Sustainability Task Force (USTF) or equivalent committee, to establish a pool of unpaid volunteer graduate students and community volunteers to support city efforts, to provide workshops for city staff, to establish an incentive program to get cities to complete both government operation and community wide GHG inventories, to create a tracking tool capable of annual reporting, and to provide a two-year funding strategy for this position through further grant funding or other sources; and

 

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and acceptance, a Grant Agreement by and between the County of San Mateo and BAAQMD, reference to which is hereby made for further particulars (the “Grant Agreement"), and the Board of Supervisors has examined and approved the same as to form and content and desires to enter into the same.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Director of Public Works shall be, and is hereby, authorized and directed to enter into the Grant Agreement with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District in the amount of $75,000.
