THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF MAY 2008 AS

ASIAN/PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, San Mateo County is enriched by the diversity of our community and strengthened by the contributions of the cultures and traditions brought to the County of San Mateo by individuals and groups who trace their origins to other parts of the world; and

   

WHEREAS, San Mateo County is the home of immigrant and American-born community members of Asian and Pacific Islander decent whose achievements have added mightily to our society, helping to shape the social and economic character of our county; and

   

WHEREAS, the Asian/Pacific American Heritage Celebration Committee of San Mateo, consisting of many community groups and individuals, is sponsoring the 8th Annual Asian/Pacific American Heritage Celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, which will include performers, artists and designers, exhibitors, demonstrations and other festivities on May 10 in San Mateo’s Central Park; and

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates the May 2008 as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month in San Mateo County, we recognize and commend the Asian/Pacific American Heritage Celebration Committee of San Mateo for their efforts to mark and celebrate this important occurrence, and we encourage all residents of San Mateo County to participate in the festivities taking place in commemoration of this occasion.
