DISCUSSION
|
Norman (Norm) Merrill has been a County employee for seven years and is a Public Works Technician in the Utilities Section of the Department of Public Works. In 2004, Norm took on the primary responsibility for implementing a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for sewer work and translating that work along with other information in the Geographic Information System (GIS). Norm has been responsible for identifying and grouping all the sewer facilities to provide the most effective preventative maintenance approach for the systems. He works collaboratively with office and field staff to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the maintenance activities for the districts. Norm has been responsible for creating many maps that display a wide variety of information in formats that can be used for public meetings and are easily understood by the public and other agencies.
Norm also provides the department with valuable insight about issues that arise during his use of these systems, which help identify and correct problems for future users. He has presented information to other sewer agencies to demonstrate the department’s use of the systems, and he offers examples of how information can be used to enhance daily work and inspire the use of these types of systems. His efforts have improved the understanding and communication with department staff and customers. Norm received the Department of Public Works annual Employee Recognition Award for Technical Achievement for his significant accomplishments utilizing CMMS and GIS for tracking, illustrating, and presenting information.
Our County is fortunate to have Norm Merrill as one of its outstanding employees.
