THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

ETHEL KONOPKA

Upon her retirement from San Mateo Union High School District

WHEREAS, ETHAL KONOPKA is retiring on June 30, 2008 from a thirty-three year career as an educational leader, both in administration and in teaching, the past thirty-one years of which have been in service to schools in San Mateo County; and,

   
 

WHEREAS, ETHEL KONOPKA has spent the past sixteen years in exemplary service to the San Mateo Union High School District as Associate Superintendent Human Resources/Administrative Services; Principal of Peninsula High School, District Director of Alternative Education, Assistant Principal at Capuchino and Hillsdale High Schools, Dean of Students; and,

   
 

WHEREAS, as Principal of the District’s Continuation High School, ETHAL KONOPKA’s leadership empowered hundreds of at-risk students to become proactively engaged in their education; and, she is recognized as a tireless advocate for social equity and justice for ALL students; and,

 

 

WHEREAS, Associate superintended ETHEL KONOPKA has worked with relentless passion to design support and facilitate a variety of multi-agency programs, collaborating with law enforcement, probation, the clergy, non-profit service agencies and the business community to build and support student resiliency, including summits for African American and Latino families; and,

   
 

WHEREAS, ETHEL KONOPKA’s lifelong pursuit of safe and respectful school environments as the necessary foundation for motivating student success has garnered for her local and national recognition including being named in 2008 as Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators (Region V, San Francisco and San Mateo Counties)

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends ETHEL KONOPKA on her distinguished career and for her leadership, dedication, and commitment to the San Mateo Union High School District and wishes her all the best in the next phase of her life.
