SUBJECT:

Accept Donations and In-Kind Gifts in the Amount of $125,000 for FY 2007-08 from the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation and Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request in the Amount of $40,000

 

RECOMMENDATION:

1)

Adopt a resolution authorizing the County’s acceptance of donations in the amount of $122,000 and in-kind gifts in the amount of $3,000 for FY 2007-08 from the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation; and

2)

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request in the amount of $40,000.

 

VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Preserve and provide people access to our natural environment.

Goals 14 and 15: Important natural resources are preserved and enhanced through environmental stewardship. Residents have nearby access to green space, such as parks and recreational opportunities.

 

These donations contribute to this commitment and goals by providing the necessary funding for programs such as the Volunteer Program and for projects such as mowing to restore butterfly habitat, and monitoring of the butterfly populations and habitat at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve.

 

BACKGROUND:

Since its inception in 1998, the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation has received donations and/or pledges of nearly $9 million for various and numerous park improvements.

 

DISCUSSION:

The Board is requested to accept donations in the amount of $122,000 from the Foundation for FY 2007-08. Additionally, the Board is requested to approve an Appropriation Transfer Request in the amount of $40,000 for those donations that were unanticipated revenue. The remaining $82,000 was budgeted as revenue in FY 2007-08. The Board is also requested to accept an in-kind gift of $3,000 for the monitoring of butterfly and habitat conditions at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve, services provided by Dr. Stuart Weiss. The total amount of donations and in-kind gifts is $125,000.
