BACKGROUND:

The Ear, Nose, and Throat Group of San Mateo has provided ENT medical services to the patients of San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) for the past several years. These services cover the diagnosis and treatment of the developmental, degenerative, infectious, and traumatic conditions of the Eustachian tube. Such conditions include hearing loss and communication disorders, salivary gland diseases and tumors, sinusitis and upper respitory infections, tonsillitis, thyroid gland surgery, and malignant diseases of the head and neck.

DISCUSSION:

We have been unable to negotiate terms for a new agreement with this Medical Group and the SMMC will therefore develop and publish a Request for Proposal (RFP) for ENT medical services. This amendment will allow for continued services while the RFP is developed and published.

This item was reviewed by the Health System Redesign Initiative Team and aligns with the first-year implementation plan approved by the Board of Supervisors on March 25, 2008.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the terms of this Agreement.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the Agreement is being extended from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2008 to the new term of April 1, 2006 to September 30, 2008, and increasing the maximum amount payable thereunder by $154,001.32 from $623,673.68 to $777,675. Funds are included in San Mateo Medical Center’s FY2007-08 Adopted Budget and will be included in the FY2008-09 Budget Request.
