GEORGE R. COREY DAY

WHEREAS, GEORGE R. COREY was born on June 28, 1933, earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan in 1956, served four years in the United States Air Force as a Radar Intercept Officer and received his law degree from the University of California Hastings College of Law in 1963;and

WHEREAS, GEORGE R. COREY has long dedicated himself to serving the public and has held several elected positions throughout the years, including serving on the San Bruno City Council for 2 terms from 1968 to 1974 (where he led the ballot in both elections) and as San Bruno City Mayor and Vice Mayor from 1970 to 1973, as well as serving as the Chairman of the North County Council of Cities, a LAFCO Commissioner, a Panel Member with the League of California Cities, and President of the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers Association; and

WHEREAS, GEORGE R. COREY has been a long time supporter of community programs and has sat on the Board of Directors for many community groups and activities, including San Bruno Rams Pop Warner Football, the Chambers of Commerce in Millbrae and San Bruno, the Center for Independence of the Disabled, Shelter Network of San Mateo County and Millbrae Community Foundation, and has also served in leadership roles on many other community projects; and

WHEREAS, GEORGE R. COREY is the Senior Partner at Corey, Luzaich, Pliska, DeGhetaldi & Nastari, LLP, and was the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Peninsula Bank of Commerce, Director of Greater Bay Bancorp, and served as Judge Pro Tem for the San Mateo County Superior Court; and

WHEREAS, GEORGE R. COREY, has received many awards recognizing his professional and community achievements, including the James Dennis Award from the San Mateo County Bar Association and the Guardian of Justice Award from the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, and was named Best Lawyer in 1997 by a San Mateo County Times Poll, Super Lawyer in 2005 by Super Lawyer Magazine, and Man of the Year by the City of Millbrae in 2005.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates June 28, 2008 as GEORGE R. COREY DAY in honor of GEORGE R. COREY’s 75^th Birthday and in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the community, and urges all residents of the County of San Mateo to join the Board of Supervisors in extending best wishes to GEORGE R. COREY for a joyous and happy birthday.
