THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING JULY 2008 AS

Parks and Recreation Month

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, San Mateo County’s public open spaces, in the forms of parks, camp sites, beaches, trails and playgrounds, are designed to enhance the quality of life for myriad residents and visitors throughout the Peninsula; and

   

WHEREAS, recreation activities provide opportunities for participants of all ages and backgrounds to interact with their environment, as well as to learn about the overall ecosystem in which they live; and

   

WHEREAS, additional programs allow individuals of all ages and backgrounds to participate in educational and physical activities – including academic tutoring, health and nutrition and youth athletics – that help enrich mind and body alike; and

   

WHEREAS, ample availability of and convenient access to open spaces and recreational programs help improve communities by attracting employers and investors, while increasing property values; and

   

WHEREAS, thousands of dedicated parks and recreation employees, volunteers and supporters work tirelessly to maintain public open spaces, organize programs and expand such opportunities for the benefit of all.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County designates July 2008 as Parks and Recreation Month, and encourages everyone to learn more about, participate in and to support parks and recreation activities and programs in their communities.
