RESOLUTION SUPPORTING FEDERAL SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT APPLICATION BY THE CITY OF MENLO PARK.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, San Mateo County values and supports community-based efforts to improve the safety of travel for children on their routes to and from school; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Menlo Park has completed a comprehensive planning process for future safety improvements to paths and roads surrounding Laurel Elementary School in collaboration with all local government agencies in the affected area; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Menlo Park has codified their plans in a grant application for funding from the Federal Safe Routes to School program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Federal Safe Routes to School Grant Program, as administered by the Federal Highway Administration, provides funding for planning and construction of comprehensive pedestrian and bicycle safety plans for schools nationwide with the goal of increasing usage of those travel modes above the current level of 15%; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors does hereby authorize the Public Works Director to sign on in support of the City of Menlo Park’s Federal Safe Routes to School grant funding application as well as the Board President to send a letter of support to be included with the application.
