DISCUSSION

Melissa has been working in the AIDS program since May of 2005. Her main duties are to reach out to high-risk women and high-risk youth in San Mateo County. Melissa provides group education in high schools, juvenile hall, the Women’s Correctional Facility and at different women’s alcohol and other drug treatment centers. Melissa also provides one-on-one education, prevention case management, HIV testing and works on multiple special projects. The quality of Melissa’s work is outstanding. She’s a team player and is always expressing new ideas on how to improve services. Melissa is seen as a mentor by many of her colleagues and they count on her as a “go-to” person for feedback and advice on the daily activities of the program. Melissa combines her creativity and technical skills to deliver great outcomes.

Melissa led the African American Women’s Social Marketing Campaign. She played a big role in coming up with the slogan, educational information and creation of the material. Melissa also recently developed a migrant resource guide for monolingual Spanish speaking Latinos in our county, which provides important information for services and organizations that serve this population. Another example of Melissa’s creative achievements is a youth sexual health guide that she developed to provide information on different resources available to support our youth. Melissa is a great asset to the AIDS program and her creativity, initiative and innovative ideas have contributed to improved program outcomes.

Our County is fortunate to have Melissa Wong as one of its outstanding employees.
