RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Stan Kiino

Upon Receiving

The 2008 C.O.P.E. Unity Award

Presented By

The San Mateo County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO

WHEREAS, Stan Kiino’s union career started in 1973 when he went to work for Pan American World Airways and joined the Association of Flight Attendants Local Council 11; after Pan Am’s collapse in 1991, Stan worked for United Airlines; and

   

WHEREAS, for the past 22 years – and counting – Stan has worked tirelessly to help improve the lives of his membership, including serving as council representative, co-chairing the AFA negotiations team, advocating on behalf of all workers at San Francisco International Airport and filling various leadership positions with the San Mateo County Central Labor Council; and

   

WHEREAS, Stan’s humanitarian efforts include the 1975 evacuation of civilians from Tanzania to Nairobi during ethnic border violence; the evacuation of Americans from Tehran, Iran, and assistance for Taipei-based AFA members and their families in the aftermath of the massive September 1999 earthquake; AFA later honored Stan for his relief work in Taiwan; and

   

WHEREAS, Stan continues to fight for domestic partner benefits and serves as the national treasurer for Pride at Work, AFL-CIO.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Stan Kiino for receiving the 2008 C.O.P.E. Unity Award presented by the San Mateo County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. The Board further recognizes Stan for his leadership and commitment to his union brothers and sisters and their families throughout San Mateo County.
